I Need A Project?

I think I need a distraction… a writing distraction.

I post on here, of course. I have been kinda writing for my D&D campaigns. That writing, though, is not much more than some notes and the occasional blurb for a cut-scene or in-game prop (like a note or letter from a non-player character for story purposes). I have gotten inspired now and then and put a couple of pages of sh’tuff down, but I usually have something else going on, too.

I have not been just writing something. I have not worked on a story idea or any such thing in quite some time. I think I need a writing project. I guess I need an idea to run with.

Should I root through my older stuff and work on that?

Should I come up with something new?

How about one of y’all throw an idea at me?

Yeah… I said, “y’all…” I’ve been living in Texas for almost 26 years now. Some of it is bound to rub off 😛

I don’t know. I guess I need a few different things to chew on to make the ideas flow well. I think I get bogged down when I try to focus on just one thing, like the D&D campaign. I know I have two different campaigns, but I typically only work on one at a time, so I consider the D&D thing one project.

Am I making sense?

What do y’all think? 😉

As always, if you like what you’ve read here, let me know by clicking that like button. It’s very much appreciated. If you have a thought, comment, or question, by all means drop, me a line. I love getting feedback. A dialogue is always better than a monologue.

Type to you later…

  1. Oh, my, I feel you so much there. Except for the fact that I have a few concepts scattered around. I just need to actually start writing them. I think writing collaboratively has spoiled me out of writing solo. Oops. I hope you find a concept and more discipline than I have!

    1. I did a collaborative thing once. It was fun. He had good ideas, and I had a knack for putting detail and color into those ideas. It’s a shame it did not get too far. Might be worth trying again some time.

      1. I’m biased because I’m always involved in one, two or more of those, but it is a lot of fun and a good way to get those creative juices flowing! 🙂

      2. Experience is not bias. Maybe you haven’t had a bad experience with collaboration, but I doubt it would sway you the other way (not liking collaborative writing) unless the experience was just terrible. Part of the reason for my departure from the one I mentioned was a falling out for other reasons. It still has not changed my opinion of the advantages of collaborative writing. I would do it again if the opportunity presented itself.

      3. Oh, I have had some bad ones (some are now, with the benefit of hindsight, funny, others not so much), but I usually take a break if the experience is bad enough and then jump right back in! If you ever want to try again and need help finding someone to do with it, let me know and I’ll share some resources! Take care!

  2. Ahhh. Writer’s block at its Covid worst. Why not tell us a bit about DFW, Scott? Some stories, some history, something that makes you smile, something that makes you grimace. I have never been to Texas, although my late Brother in Law was from Corpus and told me some sprawling stories that may or may not have been true. Happy planning and do stay well. Allan

      1. And if you want to keep on topic, you could include the gaming scene, board game cafes, clubs etc. There has to be something interesting about how others in your area are coping. A 😃
